I heard on the tv today that since the Pandemic, baking at home has become a HUGE activity. REALLY? People are baking and eating at home since everyone is social distancing. It is great to hear that everyone else enjoys baking as much as I do.
When I was attending the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC, I met an amazing woman, Teresa Pregnall, who was THE Charleston Cake Lady. She was so kind and supportive of my Sorority, Phi Mu, because she was an alumni. She was always willing to donate her cakes to us for events. However, she would say to me the following: “Adena, if you are looking for a cake with all that sugary icing, my cakes are not for you. But, if you want a delicious cake, I’ll be happy to provide one.” Her cakes had little or no icing but they were amazing!
I was SO EXCITED when she wrote a cookbook. It is a fabulous book sharing stories and how she developed each recipe. I make her cakes with so much pride over the years. Her Milk Chocolate Cake has become my go to cake to give to others. You can still find her Cookbooks on the Internet which I highly recommend you get a copy.
